DANIEL TERENCE HARPER

Daniel Terence Harper is the son of jazz musicians Danny and Terry Harper and the nephew of both Winard and Philip Harper, the core members of The hit Jazz group The Harper Brother. In 1990, the Harper Brothers recorded their hit jazz song Remembrance, which debut on the jazz billboard charts at number 1 for six straight weeks. Remembrance was written by Danny Harper.

Terence grew up in Atlanta, Ga and began playing the drums at the age of 2 and received his first professional gig at the age of 5. In middle school, Terence picked up the trumpet and when he reached high school, he went on to make 1st Chair District Honors multiple times. He was also selected in the Georgia All State Band program for 3 straight years.  Harper also attended the Prestigious Interlochen Arts  Camp in the summer of 2003 where he studied with Michael Davison. Mr. Harper credits all his band directors and private trumpet teachers for his musical success. His teachers include David Byrd, Rick Rodriguez, Reginald Colbert, Larry Black, William ‘Prof’ Fielder, and his is parents Danny and Terry Harper.

Mr. Harper has appeared in numerous films including Bessie, starring Queen Latifah, The Nice Guys starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling, The Hit Television show The Originals, The Color Purple and The Netflix Series A Man In Full. Terence has also appeared as a musician/trumpeter in both the National Geographic’s Genius: Aretha & The Aretha Franklin’s Biopic Respect, Starring Jennifer Hudson. 

Terence has performed in numerous jazz festivals and has played and recorded with many jazz artists including Curtis Lundi, Bobby Watson, Terreon Gully, Jimmy Heath, Nelson Ramos, Winard Harper, Philip Harper, Danny and Terry Harper, The Joe Gransden Big Band, Kebbi Williams, Russell Gunn and the Royal Krunk Jazz Orchestra and Emmy Award Winning Actor Keith David.  

In 2018, Terence recorded on Musiq Soulchild’s album Feel the Real, which received a Grammy Nomination for Best R&B Album. 

Over past the past few years, Terence  has performed and toured with many different artists around the World, including Musiq Soulchild, Tip T. I. Harris, Solange, Keith Sweat, Shania Twain, Andy Lau (劉德華), Khalil Fong (方大同), Phil Lam (林奕匡), Diana Wang (王詩安) Shila Amzah (茜拉), Johnny Gill, Otis Redding lll, Shania Twain, and many others.

On March 23 rd 2023, Terence Harper made his debut performance at Blue Note Jazz Club in Taipei, Taiwan and in August 2023 he he began a two month tour in Asia with with Chinese Pop Star Xin Liu (刘雨昕).

Terence is currently working on a jazz project featuring Grammy winners “ELEW” Eric Lewis and Terreon Gully!

Just recently this past June, Terence made his Debut as a bandleader At the World-Famous Dizzy’s Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City where he sold out all 5 shows! Wynton Marsalis and other Lincoln Center Musicians were also in attendance!
